So, I’ve recently been working to get NIS accounts available on the OS X machines in the SCCS media lounge. There are four facets: getting NIS working, and getting NFS working, and both of those on the client and the server. I’ve made some shell scripts to make my life on my OS X laptop easier; they also pertain to the various linux systems I use.

• Detect the current wireless network’s SSID (on OS X)
• Change /etc/hosts to account for the current network (caveat: this is a hack, and not a good way of doing things.)
• Propagate settings (such as .*rc files) to other hosts

I also have a PPC/OS X compiled version of wget here.
