I’m in Boulder, now. The server is, as you can see, back up. There may be some issues with the new networking setup to iron out; if so, email me and let me know.

Boulder is as great as ever. Tonight, we had a celebratory dinner at Himalayas, the best restaurant in town. I’m full of the best chai and yak momos. Life is profoundly good.

Outage

So, last night, TN ground to a halt because of a failure in the backup system. Yay, I have backups. Boo, the drive they’re on died, thus failing to mount, and the backups went, due to a quirk of my backup system, to the HD with the root of the filesystem. Filled that up quickly, it did.

So, resolved. No backups for now, not until I pick up a new TB drive.

Power outages

Server Migration

That was a bust. EveryDNS doesn’t yet support SRV records. If I’m not going to move all my services to the new server, I need support for that. So I may yet do it, but only when I can move XMPP and LDAP services over, too.

Server Migration

I am going to move the hosting of this blog to a more stable server soon. This will involve as much as a day of downtime, and then it will hopefully cut the amount of subsequent downtime significantly. With luck there’ll be no more than a half-hour break in availability, though. Keep an eye on @Transneptune for updates about when this will happen; with luck, it’ll be this Saturday.

This means that other blogs here will also be down briefly: Kipilefti, Chiyaa, Oddletters. Keep an eye on that Twitter account for updates and server status!

Across the country soon

Monday I’ll be leaving to drive back east, across this too-large country. It’ll be an adventure of sorts, but I won’t be dawdling in the least. There may be some pictures. This blog (and everything else on this box) will be down for a few days, as it sits in the back of a car with no internet access.

Jabber Connectivity Problems

For anyone trying to connnect to any of the Jabber rooms on Transneptune, there appear to be some issues concerning GTalk at the moment. The short of it is that GTalk will currently not show messages from an entity unless you are subscribed to that entity, which is fine for individuals, but when trying to use a chatroom, breaks. So GTalk users can connect to the room, and send messages to it, but cannot receive messages back.

Until this is resolved (which may require action on Google’s part; I’m still investigating), just connect with your Transneptune account if you want to use the chats.

Brief outage

Sorry about the downtime last night; I was messing with my networking setup. To elaborate a bit: this site and subdomains of it (Asterist, Kipilefti, Lula, the Wiki, the Jabber server) are all run off of my own server, and so when I play with the networking setup, it will disrupt the possibility of getting here.

For those who are interested, if the site seems unreachable, you can always check the status page. Yes, it’s Twitter. I figured they’d be up when I’m not (though, really, their uptime is not so great, I suppose). But it seemed an easy way to just give succinct status updates.

Restart

Well, I figured that the death of the boot partition and subsequent recreation of Transneptune was as good a time as any to set up WPμ. So here it is.

I’m still working on getting Elfstar and such back up, but soon. I’ll also be making a system for registering your own damn accounts, since, of course, all the Elfstar user accounts (but not the character sheet data!) died.
